What did you discover about your BlackBerry today?

Man I keep discovering more and more cool little things my Curve 9350/PlayBook can do, and I've been using BlackBerry for a few years now.

So how about a thread where we can just post the thrill and excitement of finding something new that makes you love your BlackBerry even more than you already did. (And if someone posts something that you've known for awhile, don't say so, just share the joy of discovering something new!)(I'm sure I probably didn't need to specify that on THIS forum... :) )

So I'll start. Today I was looking at the calendar on my Curve and noticed I had two occurrences of "staff meeting". I had manually put one in yesterday when they asked if the time would work for me. Then, later in the evening the secretary sent an Outlook invite, which I accepted on my computer.

Now we don't have a BES (in fact I'm the only BB user in a sea of "other fruit" users). I'm not even on an exchange server. I just manually sync my 'Berry with Outlook. It works great, I don't mind doing it.

So I wondered, how on earth did I get two occurences on my phone when I hadn't synced yet?

So I started playing around; I have my work email set as the default for both email and calendar. And apparently, when I accepted that invite, it automatically knew to add it to the calendar on my phone, through the email?

I don't totally understand how it works, I just know that it does. I spent a few minutes sending calendar invites from another email account, and I'm absolutely thrilled with how BlackBerry handles them.

So tthat's my new thing for today...just one more reason I choose to use BlackBerry.

Well, I learned a great one just the other day (courtesy of @belfastdispatcher. In phone call options, it's possible to adjust the tone of phone calls. I'm trying out "boost bass" at the moment.

I discovered this couple of days that my old 9700 battery is simply amazing, I just can't believe how long it lasts, I am in shock. Took it of the charger at about 12am, at 6am was still at 100% then all day till now, almost 7pm bridged to my playbook and connected to the bluetooth handsfree all day and it got a lot of use.

Well, my original one had some specs of dust under the screen and I wanted to change it before the one year warranty was up. Unfortunatelly the one they send me kept rebooting and had to send it back. Today I got another one but I haven't had the chance to turn it on yet. I've decided to run the 9700 for another week and see how I feel about it and use the PlayBook more. After all the PB shoots better video, takes better pics, browses better and battery lasts longer then the 9900. I'm confused right now lol. I absolutelly love the 9900 keyboard :)

Oh, I love the 9900's keyboard. I probably would have kept the one with the dust if it was working well. :-S In any case, I hope you get a good replacement.

I love finding those little tid bits that are new to me but have been there forever. It's like finding a little treasure.

Unfortunatly, I haven't found one in a while but there's always hope. You never know when one will pop up.

Here to hoping that BB10 brings a whole new set of goodies to find.

I found "voice adaptation" to improve the voice recognition for voice dialing.
Up until now I had just assumed it sucks.

nothing today but I actually find some interesting tidbits from following some of the blackberry guys online posting some useful tips e.g shortcuts for messaging etc and these all relate to the keyboard. It's a big reason why I still rock it out with my physical keyboard.

With the 9930/7.1.0.580 today, I finally got Battery Saving Mode! Love it!

Maybe not BlackBerry specific but here's my story.
Last week my wife almost had me convinced we needed an app to create and share a grocery list. I tried a few as did she. I found that most of them wanted me to create an account so my list could be stored in space somewhere. Most had a fee and wanted access to more of my information then I thought was necessary. In the end, a list created in docs to go and shared via BBM was simple and could easily be printed when it was time to go to the store. I send a .doc file to her, she edits and sends it back. Saved as the same name it overwrites and is updated. I am finding more and more that I don't need an app for that.

On my 9810, when using the phone to control the playbook, I can set the screen to scroll faster than the trackpad... i.e. alt + screen-swipe (faster scroll) , alt + trackpad-swipe (slower scroll)

I edited many of my contacts and added the the business category filter so I can visually see all my business clients in one list. I also setup Blackberry protect. I have password security on the device and now remote backup and wipe as well. Hope I never need it.

While it's not a feature, I did discover that streaming from Slacker doesn't kill the battery like I expected it to, in fact, I would say it did well.

Usually I have it connected to a power source while streaming, but I was streaming for a few hours out on the golf course today and lost only about 20% IIRC. (Unplugged at 6:00 and it's now 23:00 and at 31%)

@Blackjack93117 -I don't use Tunein radio, so I'm not sure. I use BBScanner occasionally and that'll drain my battery very quickly, so I know some services handle streaming much better than others.

Thanks @Monty - I'm going to have to give Slacker a comparison. Hopefully there isn't a sacrifice in sound quality.

That I can transfer 2,400 songs from my pc-iTunes files to the PlayBook with iTunes Sync.
Tomorrow I will use BB Desktop to transfer my many playlists to the PlayBook with a USB cable.
