If you could take a feature from another mobile phone/platform to add to BB. what would it be?

zensenzensen Posts: 925 ✭✭✭
There are heaps but one that stood out for me was in Android's jelllybean and the expanded notification system. I really like that and that could easily fit right in with the notifications and social feeds on my blackberry.

I guess part of that reminds me of how they love to peek and this would be another way of peeking.
I love what blackberry does with notifications and any positive changes like this would be awesome.

I would add widgets to my home screen,
Unless RIM opens up the OS to themers and we get a few themes to bring added screen functionality widgets are the next best thing.
What I like about my SG3 is that my home screen has 2 clocks my time zone and my office time zone, I can do the math easily but it is nice to have it there anyway, I also like having my next 3-6 appointments on my screen my 9630 was my last device to let me have that and I miss it

@kbz1960 yes like that, It lagged my 9800 too much, and I haven't seen a theme for a 9790 yet

@StephenBB81 no theme just touch between profiles and search. Don't think it stays there but one touch, click away.

oh ya that doesn't stay, it is a touch step, I want it as the default screen plus mine is always filled with 3 message first then 3 calendar entries

I'm on the fence with widgets. While nice, and I haven't used them on my pc for some time, they seemed to slow things down.
  • StephenBB81StephenBB81 Posts: 3,966 Δ ☮ ‡
I don`t use widgets on my PC because I always have something open, I never close everything, sticky notes are open, the browser is open, excel, and calculator so I don`t see the screen

BUT on my smartphone I always backbutton to the homescreen and glance at the home screen for the time, there is almost a full inch of vertical space on my screen that could be used more effectively with both a dual timezone clock, and a calendar view

Before upgrading to Office 2010 64Bit I used outlook on the desktop which had my PC desktop as my Calendar, it was fantastic, but it had a lot of issues with Outlook 64bit

I want Google Wallet and NFC payments on my Bold. Yesterday, someone in front of me paid at the gas station by tapping their Galaxy S3 and, for the first time, I was jealous of another platform.

I have NFC on my Bold and must've only used it once in the last year.

Why would you backbutton instead of just hitting End? And why not just use the Clock? With it you can display two timezones, and you can assign it to your convenience key. Even if you don't want to assign it to your convenience key, once you open it, it stays open, and you can just use the BlackBerry button (menu key/app switcher) to roll over to it.

I would suggest setting your calendar to agenda view but set it not to show free time. Now press L and all your appointments will show up nicely.

Right now 99% of the stores I visit don't have NFC payments. Right now it seems like gas stations are leading NFC implementation and around me they also have quick pay faubs!

I want top pc games on BB10.

Advanced OS & Led allows you to put the time and date into your full menu so you can always check the time while in an app. Maybe that'll help? But only one clock, not two...

This may be slightly off topic but I was just reading "What missing feature do you want Apple to add to iOS" on iMore and it seems a lot of them are BB features...that have been around since Jim B had hair on his head. Some features suggested like gestures will definitely be in BB10 too. Just thought I'd share this because it did stir up some deep BB pride in me! haha!

As for what I would like added to BB...I think my greatest jealousy is app selection. As for actual features...crap anything I'm thinking of gets addressed by BB10. Sharp screen...good camera (at least autofocus pleeeaaassseee)...gestures...etc. Although I like the live tiles on WP, that is nice.

I back to the home screen because usually I'm only 1 screen away from the home screen so my thumb moves 5mm less to go back,
and when I view the clock from my homescreen it is usually a glance with the phone still in my shirt pocket I peek down, I'm not pressing anything but the top unlock button, I pull it out to enter the password should I need more info than the time.

    I hate agenda view,
I'm a month view kinda guy, I like seeing how busy I am over the month with the lines being full or not and month view is usually more important to me than because I know whats coming usually in the next 6 hours, which is all agenda shows me I'd like the agenda view on my homescreen while the month view when launching the calendar as when I go into my calendar usually I'm trying to find a day that isn't full to fill it

But the month view is just a shortcut away, M for month view, A for agenda view, W for week view

Widgets. There's a few for BlackBerry but they suck.

On Android, every app has a widget: Weatherbug, Kayak, etc.

My original analogue mobile came with a nifty belt clip. That might be nice.

@zensen, which expanded notifications...can you give an example

    image

this video shows what I mean.

where you can pinch a message and expand on it so you can see more of it at a glance. especially on smaller screen it could also work in the messages pane and then being able to swipe it away if you don't care for it.

For the most part I'll probably just click on it but I still think its a nice little addition.

Personally I still prefer the way RIM groups them in my notification bar as I feel it's easier to find what I'm looking for then having them group by the last thing I received - too messy.

That's all nice and fancy but isn't it easier to just press M for all your messaging notifications be it email, instant messengers, social networks, sms and many other apps?

@belfastdispatcher It's not the exact same thing Im asking for and even then pressing M for a shortcut on a touch screen device requires more steps too and then you got to have that setting on when using a Blackberry qwerty device (as I have universal search on since that works better for me)

by any chance did you watch the video?

I know when you press m it brings up messages (email, IM, BBM etc) and shows a sneak preview of text but what that video shows us is a way to delve further into the message and allows us to expand and read the message, play a video, reply back all without having to open up another applicatio - This is probably the best example of multi-tasking on android that reminds me a lot of how RIM is concentrating with B10 and something iOS lacks horribly in (I just don't see that changing anytime soon).

Blackberry is an excellent tool for doing things outside certain applications and so I feel this sorta thing while not always practical could be very convenient at times as I'm always hovering about the notifications and messages area of my phone.

Press endcall/M, takes half a second, from any screen. I'm so used to it now, I toggle between shortcuts at light speed :)

I like your thinking but what OS is that?

you talking about like how you could be in the middle of a game or productivity suite and you could easily go into a notification window. though I do think this will be close to possible on BB10 (I can't wait to get all hands on with BB10 and peeking. It's funny I don't like having to be notified all the time but when I do and it works, its my best friend).
