Whatever they are using now seems to be holding up well for me, but I don't carry my keys and my phone in the same pocket. So I really wouldn't notice a difference what "stronger" glass brand they went with.

I think going with Gorilla Glass would be better/easier to market, as many who follow the techy pages of the web have at least some idea what Gorilla Glass is. I had to look up SCHOTT and Dragontail.

If you've ever watched the movie "Idiocracy", it's like the energy drink in the movie -
"Well it's got electrolytes."
"And what ARE electrolytes?"
"I dunno, but it's got 'em!" - Replace electrolytes with Gorilla Glass and you see my point.

If RIM said BB10 has Schott Glass or Dragon Tail glass you know it has to be good :-?

Gorilla Glass is copycat-ish.

I prefer Asahi's Dragontrail, which by many industry experts is considered superior to Corning's.

I would like to see a Hammer, key and stress test with all the competitors side by side. The lighter, stronger,most scratch resistant at the most competitive price from a reliable source would be the obvious choice. Getting that information is the challenge. Oh don't forget the politics.

take the newest of everyones smartphone, plus 1 generation back of each phone and do the various tests on the screens.

It doesn't really matter what they use, so long as they advertise that women find it irresistible. Then all the hormonally imbalanced teens that currently haunt the blogosphere will all flock to it and all the haters will disappear. Problem solved.

It doesn't matter about the brand name. If a competitor offers a better product. Or even for cheaper for the same quality. Then I'd have them go for that.

If it's a better product, they have another point to market.

Beat the he77 out of my phones and up until today have never ever damaged the glass on a BlackBerry.

Isn't Gorilla the woosie glass they use on iPhones? Regardless, the current BlackBerry glass is outstanding.

so true, the only phones I've ever seen with broken screens are iPhones and I've dropped my blackberry without much of a problem either.

I personally feel like Gorilla Glass is hype. Like Beats by Dr. Dre or hell, even iPhones! ;)

I'd say yes. I have seen someone abuse a One X on YouTube and agree Gorilla glass does have its strong points, not to mention that it adds a bit of the 'coolness' craved for by some fans of familiar brands.
Its strength would enable RIM to use less strengthening metal in devices and allow them to put beefier batterys without worrying about weight and packaging. It would still pass RIM's bending tests. The scratch and smudge resistance would be pretty welcome too. So depending on costs, it is something they need to seriously look into.

I would like to know how the hardened plastic screens in the 9850/60 are holding up after a year.

If they are remaining scratch free, then the shater-proofness (new word) of the plastic should out perform any glass and RIM should stick with it.

@BB4tw, if the 9850/60 devices are using the same screen materials as the 9790 then I wouldn't want RIM to stick to that material for the all touchscreen phone
While it is durable and doesn't break easily, it does scratch far easier, I had more scratches on my 9790 screen in the first month, than my 9900 had in 4 months, and they both lived in the same pockets.

I'd like a glass screen with a scratch resistant coating.

Gorrila glass my gl...ass. Here's a pic of my FEDEX drivers new Samsung. Broke the glass when lifting a box with his keys and phone in the same pocket. Phone cost 200.00 with new contract. Replace Glass 200.00.

Any suggestions.
